  • More info on the May 2009 update to SQL Server 2008 Books Online

I finally got around to installing this update today, and thought I would mention a few things. Don't be surprised that ''Books Online (May 2009)'' actually says ''April 2009'' in the application's title bar and on any page which states the version.  (I already received one private message asking me why they got the April version instead ...

  • Connect Digest : 2009-05-16 : please vote!

Here are the items from this week that I feel deserve some attention. ==================== Hotfixes / service packs should leave authentication mode alone I may have talked about this issue here before, I'm not sure, but I thought I was the only one who saw this happen.  This week someone else came across the issue, where they had a SQL ...

  • Come on, it's Saturday, get out and vote!

I was encouraged by some fellow MVPs (well, mostly Alexander Kuznetsov) to periodically post a set of Connect items to encourage voting for items that I found relevant but that are maybe being largely ignored.  Saturday is probably my best opportunity to do this, especially ones like today where the weather is crappy.  While I can't ...

  • Two connectivity features you may not have known about

I just wanted to relay some information about connectivity options for SQL Server 2008 that may be useful but are not currently documented.  While I know several of my readers already know about these, the rest of you will get a good preview of these features that will show up in the next refresh of Books Online for SQL Server 2008. Limiting ...

An update to SQL Server 2008 Books Online has been published to TechNet and MSDN.  It will show up on Microsoft Update within a few weeks.  You can see the list of new and updated topics here: if you don't want to wait for Windows Update, you can download an installer to update your ...

  • SQL Server 2005 Books Online update (December 2008) now available

Don't be fooled by the poor title on the page, which still says ''SQL Server 2005 Books Online (September 2007)'' (clearly a leftover from an earlier BOL update). The text under the overview section also mentions the September 2007 update.  And the page thanking you for downloading says: Thank You for DownloadingSQL Server 2005 Books Online ...

  • How do the links in YOUR copy of SQL Server 2008 Books Online work?

I am just taking a quick show of hands; and maybe some information, if you are willing.  (And if this hasn't happened to you, I apologize for taking up your time.) I have had various problems on multiple installations of Books Online throughout the entire Katmai / SQL Server 2008 cycle.  They have been on both 32 and 64-bit; with / ...
