Does anyone have any experience with SQL 2008?

I am considering an upgrade to 2008 simply for the enhancements to reporting server design features. Is there any concern with the compatibility with SQL 2005? Again, the upgrade is just for the report server which will be separate from the database server.

I haven't seen nor heard of any compatibility issues in migrating reports from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008, although that doesn't mean there aren't any gotchas.

Of course, you have two new tool, tablix and guage, to use on your reports. And some features have been enhanced, such as Office Report integration, as well as new visualization features for charts. Of course, deploying reports that use these new or improved features will require a SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services server.

Remember that, like it was in 2000 to 2005, the RDL specification changes. You'll be upgrade to 2008, but you won't be able to round-trip to back to 2005. You'll probably need to keep both versions of BIDs around until you've completely migrated.

 The big ugly change is in the Rendering Object Model. If you've written your own data processing or rendering extensions, you will probably enjoy the experience. Again.
