We've been tracking this too, but the problem is what to use to replace these?  They are becoming more a symbol representing the action than a picture of the old original object, so their continued use still works.  We have quite a few icons using a book image.

In our software we do have one icon I think is intriguingly simple but always takes a moment to "get" - a railroad track and a number sign - used for viewing UPS/FedEx/etc. Tracking Numbers of shipments.
