I installed this on my SQL Server 2012 RC virtual machine and have started testing. So far, I like it! :{>...(read more)

PASS Summit 2008: SSIS Scripting

It's That Time of Year Again...

I am honored to again be presenting at the PASS Summit! I'm even more honored to be co-presenting SSIS Scripting with Jessica Moss, SQL Server MVP!

Errata

Somewhere in the abstract for this presentation I listed the following three goals:

Explore SSIS Script Objects

Best practices for script coding

Demonstrate customized FTP class

I lied about the last bullet. Well, it isn't exactly a lie - I meant it when I wrote it (really I did). I've since thought of a better demo for bullet 3. It's _________! No, there's no text there. It's top secret. Yes, Jessica knows, and no she won't tell either.

Is It Cool?

I think so. Cooler than a custom FTP class? I suppose that depends on how desperately you're in the market for some custom FTP code for SSIS (I was pretty desperate when I wrote it...). The new demo combines a few things I'm tinkering with lately - mostly as a hobby, but maybe as more than a hobby later. We'll see.

But getting back to the question at hand: Is it cool? I have one interesting idea per decade: This is my 2000 - 2009 interesting idea. I thought I was being unnecessarily giddy until I let Jessica in on the big secret. She thinks it's cool too. So there. At least two people on the planet think this is interesting stuff.

Disclaimer

There's is a possibility (however remote), should you attend our session, you will disagree with Jessica's and my assessment of the demo code idea. If that's the case you should blame no one but me. Although Jessica is lending her superb Custom SSIS Task coding and presentation skills to our session, I talked her into writing a task based on my idea. If, on the other hand, you like the presentation and idea; you should give Jessica equal (or more) credit!

We're using the SFTP (Secure FTP) and SSH Connection Manager on my current project.

Once we identified the need for SFTP, I looked around and identified a couple companies / products. The CozyRoc download was the only one I could make work.

I've communicated with the company a few times with questions about functionality. I found Ivan to be very responsive and refreshingly open.

We're planning to use other tasks in the suite as well: the Script Task Plus, Zip Task, and Database Partitions Task are slated for use. It's all good stuff and the price is extremely reasonable ($99.95!) - especially when compared to the competition.

Kudos Ivan.
