I maintain the best way to start a blog post or article is with an image that grabs the reader's attention. So I asked my good friend Frank La Vigne (Blog - @Tableteer) to help me out some with his mad Photoshop skillz.
While describing G. Andrew Duthie (Blog - @DevHammer) in a Richmond Code Camp keynote, I coined the acronym TBDDEOTP (The Best Damn Developer Evangelist On The Planet). Andrew is awesome and we love him in Richmond and southern Virginia - and geeks all around the Mid-Atlantic love him as well.
One of the reasons we love him is he engages and participates with us right where we live. He blogs. He's on Twitter and LinkedIn. He attends meetings and sometimes presents - like tonight at Richmond.Net! When Andrew sees an opportunity to get personally involved, he does. Which brings me to...
Southern Maryland GiveCamp
Jim Pendarvis (Blog - @JRPendarvis) is doing a fantastic job organizing the first Mid-Atlantic region GiveCamp - the Southern Maryland GiveCamp.
GiveCamps are a neat idea. Developers donate their time for a weekend development project that benefits a charity or non-profit. At the end of the weekend, the charity or non-profit has an application or website developed at no cost. There's more to it than that (obviously), so check out the Southern Maryland GiveCamp website for more details.
"So Why the Photochop of Duthie Sporting a Mohawk, Andy?"
I'm glad you asked!
G. Andrew Duthie has pledged to bring clippers the Southern Maryland GiveCamp and cut his hair in Mohawk style if 100 developers sign up and show up for the event! Thanks to Frank's photoshop skillz, you have a preview of what this might look like (thanks Frank!).
