New TFS 2008 VPC Images are available

Previously, Microsoft has posted an update to the Visual Studio 2008 Downloads page:

  • The VPC downloads listed above will expire on November 1, 2007, which is earlier than anticipated. It is important that you backup or move any data to a new location before that date. To move Team Foundation Server data, see Moving Team Foundation Server. New VPC images will be posted as soon as they are available.

The original expiration date was 15 Mar 2008.

Jeff Beehler announces the availability of updated Team Foundation Server 2008 and Team Suite Beta 2 VPC images.

The updated images are available:

Good work Jeff and team!

Do these images really expire 3 days after they are released (Oct 29 - Nov 1) ?

Hi Matt,

No, and I apologize if I gave that impression.

The problem with the old images (released a few months back) was they expire 1 Nov 2007. The expiration wasn't a real problem - the problem was the accompanying documentation incorrectly stated the images were valid through 15 Mar 2008.

The updated images correct this early expiration issue. So far as I know, the new images expire 15 Mar 2007.

One thing to note: Even when they do expire you can still work with the VPCs. The VPC simply nags you when you log in - letting you know you have an hour to complete your work. My understanding is it shuts down every hour, but I have not verified this.

You could conceivably restart the VPC every hour and continue working in this limited fashion but it doesn't sound like any fun. :|

Hope this helps and clarifies my post.

Yes, assuming you meant "the new images expire 15 Mar *2008*" ;)

Hi Matt,

Doh! Yes, that's what I meant. I'm not sure that's when they expire, I know that's when the previous VPCs were supposed to expire.
